Saïd Sayrafiezadeh was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Pittsburgh. His essays and short stories have appeared in Granta, The Paris Review, Columbia Journal of Literature and Art, The Thinking Fan’s Guide to the World Cup, Open City, and elsewhere.
New York is Bleeding, a historical drama about the Civil War draft riots, was commissioned by New York Theatre Workshop and developed at the Sundance Theatre Lab. Other plays include: Autobiography of a Terrorist (Public Theater, New Works Now); Long Dream in Summer (2005 Humana Festival); All Fall Away (Theatre 503, London).
He is the recipient of a number of writing fellowships in both drama and prose, including Sirenland (2008), New York Foundation for the Arts (1996 and 2006), and New York Theatre Workshop (1997 and 2001).
Currently he is at work on his memoir about growing up the child of an Iranian father and a Jewish-American mother, both of whom were members of the the Socialist Workers Party.
Saïd lives in New York City.
